My first opportunity to volunteer my time and efforts came through the Backyard Collective, an incredible event held by The Conservation Alliance. I participated in this event through Exxel Outdoors as a representative of the specific brand I am interning for, Ultimate Direction.
Getting right down to it, I was able to help restore a trail that was heavily trafficked by local people in that area. We accomplished this by digging and altering ruts from water erosion into purposeful trenches for proper drainage in the future. Being able to get hands-on and contribute something towards protecting the environment was extremely rewarding. Many other positives such as teamwork and networking were also incredible benefits to this day of coming together and giving back.
I am very eager to find ways to get back out there and make a difference.
